Why You Will Love These Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms:
- Incredibly Fast to Prepare: Say goodbye to long cooking times! These stuffed mushrooms come together in roughly 20 minutes from start to finish. While traditional stuffed mushroom recipes can be quite straightforward, the air fryer slashes the cooking time dramatically, often by up to 75%. You’ll only need 5-7 minutes of actual cooking, making this a lightning-fast option for last-minute cravings or unexpected guests.
- The Ultimate Party Appetizer: Just the phrase “stuffed mushrooms” conjures images of elegant, fun gatherings. These bite-sized delights are always a welcome sight on any appetizer spread. They’re perfectly portioned, easy to pick up, and incredibly flavorful, making them a crowd-pleaser that rarely gets passed up. Pair them with other crowd-favorites like cheeseburger potato skins and spicy deviled eggs for an unforgettable feast.
- Effortlessly Customizable: While this Air Fryer Stuffed Mushroom recipe is fantastic as written, it’s also an excellent canvas for culinary creativity. Feel free to experiment with different types of cheese, incorporate savory additions like crumbled sausage or crispy bacon, or even add a hint of spice. The possibilities are endless, allowing you to create a unique variation every time you make them.
- Perfect for Make-Ahead Preparation: Planning a special event or a busy weeknight? You can easily prepare these mushrooms in advance, checking one item off your lengthy to-do list. Simply assemble them ahead of time, store them in the refrigerator, and then pop them into the air fryer just before you’re ready to serve, ensuring hot and fresh appetizers with minimal fuss.
Essential Recipe Ingredients:
- Mushrooms: For the best stuffed mushrooms, baby bella (also known as cremini) mushrooms are an ideal choice. Their sturdy caps provide ample space for stuffing, and they tend to be more uniform in size at the grocery store, ensuring even cooking. While white button mushrooms can also work, baby bellas offer a deeper, earthier flavor. The stems are easily removed, leaving a perfect cavity for our delicious filling.
- Cream Cheese: Softened block cream cheese forms the luscious, creamy base of our stuffing. While a lower-fat cream cheese can be used, full-fat cream cheese delivers the richest flavor and most desirable texture. Ensure it’s softened to room temperature for effortless mixing.
- Breadcrumbs: You can use either Italian seasoned breadcrumbs or plain breadcrumbs. If opting for Italian seasoned, remember to reduce the amount of additional Italian seasoning later in the recipe by half to avoid overpowering the flavor. Gluten-free breadcrumbs also work wonderfully, making this recipe adaptable for different dietary needs.
- Parmesan Cheese: Grated Parmesan cheese is preferred for its fine texture, which blends seamlessly into the stuffing and creates a beautiful golden crust when cooked. Shredded Parmesan can also be used, though it might yield a slightly different texture. For a gourmet touch, consider substituting or combining with Pecorino Romano, Asiago, or a blend of Italian hard cheeses.
- Seasoning: A simple yet effective blend of garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and a touch of salt and freshly cracked black pepper enhances the overall flavor profile, complementing the mushrooms and cheese perfectly.
- Sun-Dried Tomatoes: While optional, chopped sun-dried tomatoes are a game-changer for this recipe. They introduce a concentrated burst of sweet and savory flavor that truly elevates these mushrooms beyond the ordinary. Remember to squeeze off any excess oil from the tomatoes and blot them dry to prevent the mushrooms from becoming greasy.

How To Craft These Air Fried Mushrooms: A Simple Guide
Making these delightful air-fried stuffed mushrooms is a straightforward process, ensuring a delicious result every time. Follow these easy steps:
Begin by combining all of your stuffing ingredients in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Use a spoon or spatula to stir them thoroughly until they are well incorporated and form a cohesive mixture. Taste the mixture and adjust the salt, pepper, and other seasonings as needed to suit your preference. A little extra seasoning can make a big difference!
Next, gently wash your mushrooms and pat them completely dry with a paper towel. Moisture can prevent proper browning, so ensure they are as dry as possible. Carefully remove the stems from each mushroom cap; these can be finely chopped and added to the stuffing for extra flavor and to reduce waste, if desired.
Prepare your air fryer by lightly spraying its basket with cooking oil or lining it with a piece of parchment paper designed for air fryers. This prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze. Now, it’s time to fill the mushrooms. You can spoon the cream cheese stuffing generously into each mushroom cap. For a cleaner and more professional look, transfer the stuffing mixture into a plastic bag, snip a corner off the tip, and pipe the filling into each mushroom. This method ensures mess-free and beautifully stuffed mushrooms.
Arrange the filled mushrooms in the air fryer basket in a single layer, ensuring they do not touch each other. This allows for optimal air circulation, which is key to achieving that perfect golden-brown finish. Lightly mist the tops of the stuffed mushrooms with a bit more oil. Preheat your air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and air fry the mushrooms for approximately 5-7 minutes. Begin checking the mushrooms around the 4-minute mark, and then continue to monitor them every minute or so thereafter. Remember that air fryers vary significantly in wattage and efficiency, so your cooking time may differ from the suggested range. The mushrooms are done when the stuffing is golden brown and the mushroom caps are tender.

Expert Recipe Tips for Perfect Stuffed Mushrooms:
- Understand Your Air Fryer: It’s crucial to remember that not all air fryers are created equal. Different brands and models can have varying wattages and heating mechanisms, meaning cooking times will differ. I personally own two air fryers, and even between them, there’s a noticeable difference in how quickly this recipe cooks. Always keep a close eye on your stuffed mushrooms, especially after the first few minutes, to prevent them from burning. A quick check at the 4-minute mark can save your delicious appetizers!
- Prepare Ahead for Convenience: This recipe is wonderfully suited for advance preparation, making it an ideal choice for entertaining or busy schedules. You can assemble the stuffed mushrooms up to two days before your event. Simply store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator, and then air fry them fresh just before serving. This ensures maximum flavor and a warm, delightful appetizer with minimal last-minute effort.
- Mist the Tops with Oil for Best Results: Air fryers are excellent for achieving crispy textures, but they can sometimes dry out certain foods. To ensure the creamy stuffing remains perfectly moist and develops a beautiful golden crust, lightly mist the tops of your stuffed mushrooms with cooking oil before placing them in the air fryer. This small step makes a significant difference in texture and appearance, preventing the stuffing from drying out.
- No Air Fryer? No Problem! Bake Them: If you don’t own an air fryer, you can still enjoy these fantastic stuffed mushrooms by baking them in a conventional oven. Simply preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, arrange the stuffed mushrooms in a single layer, and bake for approximately 20 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown and the mushrooms are tender.

Exciting Air Fryer Stuffed Mushroom Variations:
This Air Fryer Stuffed Mushroom recipe provides a fantastic foundation, but don’t hesitate to get creative with additions and substitutions to make them even more unique and flavorful. Here are some inspiring ideas to customize your next batch:
- Add a Meaty Boost: For a heartier appetizer, stir in about 1/2 cup of finely chopped, cooked bacon into the stuffing mixture. Alternatively, incorporate about 1 cup of your favorite browned sausage, ground beef, or ground turkey for a more substantial bite.
- Include Greens: Enhance the nutritional value and add a subtle earthy note by mixing in 1/3 cup of thawed, frozen spinach. Make sure to thoroughly drain and squeeze out all excess liquid from the spinach to prevent a watery stuffing.
- Experiment with Cheeses: While Parmesan is classic, a variety of other cheeses can elevate the flavor. Try using shredded Gruyere for a nutty, complex taste, creamy ricotta or tangy goat cheese for a softer texture, or mozzarella for a melty, stringy finish. A blend of cheeses can also create a delightful depth of flavor.
- Bring the Heat: If you love a little kick, finely diced jalapeño or a pinch of red pepper flakes can introduce a pleasant warmth to the stuffing. For a smoky heat, consider a dash of chipotle powder.
- Herbaceous Freshness: Beyond Italian seasoning, feel free to experiment with other fresh or dried herbs. Finely chopped fresh chives, dill, or even a hint of thyme can add new dimensions to the stuffing.
Storage and Reheating Tips:
These air-fried stuffed mushrooms are undeniably at their best when served fresh, hot, and straight from the air fryer. However, if you find yourself with a few leftovers, it’s absolutely fine! Simply store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
While technically you could freeze cooked stuffed mushrooms, I generally don’t recommend it as their texture can become somewhat watery and less appealing upon thawing and reheating. For much better results if you wish to freeze, assemble the mushrooms but do not cook them. Freeze the uncooked stuffed mushrooms on a baking sheet until solid, then transfer them to an airtight freezer-safe bag or container. When you’re ready to enjoy them, you can air fry them directly from frozen, adding a few extra minutes to the cooking time.
To reheat cooked leftovers: Simply pop them back into your air fryer for a few minutes at 350°F (175°C) until they are warmed through and the topping is slightly crispy again. This will bring back much of their original deliciousness!
Perfect Pairing and Serving Suggestions:
These versatile Air Fryer Stuffed Mushrooms can be served in a multitude of ways. As an appetizer, they shine on their own or as part of a larger tapas-style spread. Pair them with a crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a light-bodied pilsner for an adult gathering. For a family-friendly snack, they are great with a side of marinara sauce for dipping.
Beyond appetizers, they make an excellent side dish for various meals. Serve them alongside grilled chicken or steak, roasted fish, or even a simple pasta dish to add a touch of elegance and flavor. They can also be a delightful addition to brunch spreads or holiday buffets.

These super simple and delicious air fryer stuffed mushrooms can be whipped up in about 15 minutes. A perfect party appetizer or great for an addition to any meal. Perfectly seasoned and stuffed to the brim!

Print Recipe
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 7 minutes
Total Time: 20 minutes
Servings: 24 mushrooms*
Ingredients
- 24 baby bella mushrooms, washed, dried and stems removed
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 c parmesan cheese, grated
- 1/4 c bread crumbs
- 1/2 tsp Italian seasoning
- 2 T chopped sun dried tomatoes
- 1/4 tsp garlic powder
- 1/4 tsp cracked peppper
- salt to taste
- chopped parsley to top
Instructions
- Rinse and dry mushrooms and then remove stems. Combine remaining ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir to combine. Adjust seasoning as desired.
- Spoon or pipe the stuffing into each mushroom (will depend on the size of the mushroom but about 2 teaspoons more or less in each). Spray the basket of the air fryer with oil. Arrange the mushrooms so they are not touching and mist the tops of with oil as well. (you can line the air fryer basket with foil or parchment and then spray if desired.)
- Air fry for about 5-7 minutes in preheated 350°F air fryer or until the top of the stuffing is golden brown. You may need to work in batches if your air fryer is not large enough.
- Remove from air fryer and sprinkle with freshly chopped parsley and serve immediately.
Notes
- *The size of the mushrooms will impact the number of servings in this recipe. If your mushrooms are larger, you may not have enough filling to stuff all of them.
- Air fryers are not all created equally. I have two different air fryers and this recipe cooks slightly faster in one verses the other. Keep an eye on the stuffed mushrooms after the first few minutes to avoid burnt mushrooms!
- Use the sun-dried tomatoes in oil for this recipe. You want the soft tomatoes in oil and I love the ones in herbs for great Italian flavors. Just try to remove the oil as best you can or it goes everywhere!
- Spray the tops of the stuffed mushrooms before air frying. Air fryers can certainly dry out certain foods. When the tops of the stuffing in these mushrooms were not sprayed prior to air frying, it tended to have a dry texture on top. Misting with some oil remedied this quite well.
- These mushrooms can be baked if you don’t have an air fryer. Line a cookie sheet with parchment and arrange the mushrooms. Bake at 350°F for about 20 minutes or until the tops are golden.
